Gallon House Bridge
Erected in 1916, Gallon House Bridge got its name from an era in which the town on one side, Silverton, was "dry," but the town across Abiqua Creek, Mt. Angel, was "wet." Thirst-quenching transactions were made on the Mt. Angel side, it is told. It is located just northwest of Silverton. Take Highway 214 north about half a mile to Hobart Road. Turn to the west and after one mile turn right on Gallon House Road and proceed about a half-mile.

Mt. Angel Abbey
The high butte on the north side of Abiqua Creek is said to have once been the site of the Abiqua Indians' religious shrine called Topolamahoh. Today the hilltop is home to the Mt. Angel Abbey, where mass is held during the week at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Sunday, with Vespers held daily at 5:15 p.m. People come from all over the world to attend the seminary, and the library, designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, is open to the public daily 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Sunday - Thursday. There are two museums, both with free admission. Both the Russian museum and the natural museum are open 10 - 11:30 a.m. and 1 - 5 p.m. daily.

The gardens are open daily 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. during peak bloom, usually mid-May - mid-June. Tours and groups are welcome. Call 503-873-5463 for information.
